If there was a product design award for muay thai mma gear, then the KO Fightgear muay thai pads would win first place "hands down". The KO Fightgear EZ-On / EZ-Off hook and loop velcro fastening system makes working with these thai pads a dream. Our competitors still sell pads with buckles or tiny velcro straps which are obsolete. The KO Fightgear pads are built extra tough for advance skills, the school environment, when your training partner "kicks like a mule", and if you're just starting out. For example, the straps are triple riveted and "X" stitched to the pads. Even after break-in, the pads stay firm. This isn't us "crowing", but positive feedback from numerous satisfied customers, including US Military combatives instructors. Pads are constructed of genuine cowhide leather.

Thai Pads with Hook and Loop Velcro Closure System

"I'm very impressed... I've been training in... MMA for over 25 years... I know a good quality product when I train with it!"

Neil,
I have to say I'm very impressed with quality workmanship of your Thai pads. I've been training in Thai Boxing and MMA for over 25 years, fought in UFC III and in the past I trained 6 to 8 hours a day, six days a week. So I know a good quality product when I train with it! Usually what happens is I buy a pair of Thai pads, train with them a couple month's and decide I don't like them. At that point I just give them to my son. I love my son but he's not getting this pair of Thai pads! He can buy his own! Just wanted to let you know I'm very happy with quality and function of your pads and will be recommending to our future students when we open our new MMA school in May 2012.

Sincerely,
— Roland Payne - Owner

"Very durable and capable of taking even the biggest kicks from the biggest guys."

I've had the Standard Pads for 2 months, but they've been through some tough sessions. Very durable and capable of taking even the biggest kicks from the biggest guys. They need some breaking in at first, but once they are you'll never put them down. They weigh a little more than the average kick pad, but I've grown to prefer it and the workout they give you. Awesome pads.

"the padding is just the amount of denseness that I prefer, where it's not too soft so it helps to condition the shin, but not rock-hard either"

I bought the Standard Thai Pads about 8 months ago and if I had to describe them in one word, that word would be STURDY (and I say that with a lot of emphasis in my voice). The craftsmanship is really impressive and even through taking thousands of kicks and strikes over the last 8 months, I know very well that these pads are going to last me for a really, really long time.

I really like that the pads are on the heavier side, and honestly they don't feel very heavy at all when in use. That EZ on & off closure system is really great and is probably my favorite thing about these pads. These are actually the only pads that I've ever seen personally that are easy to take on and get off. I've gone to gyms and trained with friends whose Thai pads either have those velcro strips that make it really difficult to get both on, or a hook & loop system where the straps are way too short, so they always get undone when you're trying to re-adjust them. And those are from "popular" name brands that go for well over $100. With these KO pads, my training buddies and I can switch off in seconds. Also, the padding is just the amount of denseness that I prefer, where it's not too soft so it helps to condition the shin, but not rock-hard either.

All in all, these are great Thai pads and after having used them, I wouldn't want to have a different pair. I'm really happy with the product, the experience with customer service, and the price (which is well below what the normal cost is for pads of lower quality). I'm a guy who has a lot of fun beating my gear up and it makes me really happy to know that I'm going to continue having that fun with these pads for a long time. Thanks a lot for a really wonderful product!

"These pads are very well constructed. No loose stitching and everything was nice and tight. The hook and loop closure worked very well."

First Impression- These came in a fairly large box and I could not wait to get it open. I pulled them out and inspected them and they looked great. They were very stiff but that’s kind of what I expected and I knew that I was going to have some fun with these.

Fit and Finish- These pads are very well constructed. No loose stitching and everything was nice and tight. The hook and loop closure worked very well. I like the closure system on these much better then on some where it is two straps of Velcro that must be stuck together. I found that I could easily put these on by myself where as sometimes with other thai pads it is hard to put one on after you already have one on. They are the perfect size coming in at 15″ long by 8″ wide and 4″ thick. I also really enjoyed the color however there are some black marks on them but that is to be expected with use.

Comfort- When I first got these they were very stiff. Almost a little uncomfortable to have on but once I got the straps to loosen up and give a little bit they have become much more comfortable. They are not too heavy either. I found that with the angle you hand hits the grips that your hand does not become fatigued to quickly.

Stand up- The main use for these would be during some stand up training sessions and they work well for everything. I enjoyed doing not only boxing type workouts on these but they worked great for the kicks, knees and elbows of muay thai. Not too hard but not too soft.

Pros- Great Craftsmanship, Good Feel, Good Weight

Cons- Black marks left on them from workouts

Overall- I loved these thai pads. I have used many thai pads in my time and these rank up there with all the big name brands. If you are looking for thai pads for either your gym or home use definitely think about giving these a try. You can get them at http://www.kofightgear.com for around $79 a pair.

"...the stitching is tight and secure. The leather is supple and stiff enough for long term use. This is the type of craftsmanship and leather you find in durable handgun holsters..."

What's up guys.

This will be my first review.

I was lurking on this forum over winter break and I constantly ran into reviews about KO Fight Gear equipment.

So I thought what the heck, might as well give KO Fight Gear a try.

I am glad I did.

The first thing you'll notice about the extra thick thai pads is.....well, the thickness.

You know how people have micro punch mitts and regular punch mitts? These thai pads make other thai pads look like micro thai pads. To give you an idea, here's how it measures up against a generic wallet:

Another thing you'll notice is the material and craftsmanship.

For those of you that own Louis Vuitton or Chanel thai pads, you might be offended by the "messy" craftsmanship and dull leather. But for everyone else, take a look at these pictures:

This is a working man's thai pad. The studs and stitching aren't perfectly aligned. The leather isn't finished with oil and polished. But the stitching is tight and secure. The leather is supple and stiff enough for long term use. This is the type of craftsmanship and leather you find in durable handgun holsters.

These are heavy duty thai pads. I find that these cause more pain than 300lb heavy bags. In fact, part of my group's "initiation" is to kick these thai pads as hard as you can.

9 out of 10 people (literally) did the Peter Griffin ( YouTube - family guy: Ah SEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ) after they kicked the thai pads.

These thai pads are also very heavy and cumbersome at first. So it's a workout for both the holder and the hitter. This also means that you can't do combination drills as quickly as you'd like, until you get accustomed to these thai pads.

Final verdict: Unless you can't handle the weight or hate plain jane designs, these are the best thai pads in the $80 price range.

I paid about $80 for this pair of thai pads. And to be honest, I felt like I paid Neil less than he deserved. Maybe I'll order a pair of focus mitts to make it up to him.

Let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like a specific picture of the thai pads.

"The site says, 'KO FIGHTGEAR is built like a tank.' We disagree — it’s built better than a tank!"

We recently received some equipment to test and evaluate for one of our other combatives programs. In our humble opinion, KO Fightgear is the finest hand-made training gear on the market! The site says, “KO FIGHTGEAR is built like a tank.” We disagree — it’s built better than a tank! You want sturdy — you got it! AND... it’s all leather! This gear will last you at least a jillion years. The customer service is outstanding and timely, and the prices are fantastic. Please visit their website today, or contact Neil and tell him Combat Hard sent you.
